Hi Phoebe, Our little Goddess of Love Venus has settled in really beautifully.
We kept her in her own safe post and rail paddock for the first 3 days, where she and my other 4 horses could talk, sniff & get to know each other.
She is such a little baby girl, Ebony and Venus made an instant connection , Ebs just stayed in the paddock with Venus when she first arrived and sat close but also gave Venus her space, Venus ended up coming into EBs, head bowed and taking the treats Ebony had for her,
Venus went through the pecking order and is now totally calm, has chosen the stable she likes to be in for her dinner time, which is between my two geldings, She goes in there and has her dinner and her night rugs on just as if she had been doing this for years, she feels very safe when she is with her mates.
She is eating really well, & I love how she licks her feed bucket clean , she is so funny, has to make sure it is completely gone.
Venus is also very brave, as she has met our dogs, who are all very horse friendly, they are Shepards & very soft natured;, at first she looked and then walked up to my boy Sakima and sniffed him, we told her what a brave girl she was.
then she had our resident Peacock come up near her and opened his big beautiful tail up, she looked at him but didn't even take a step away.
She has been leading my geldings around the paddock, trotting and lovely soft canters, she leads & they follow her, I think the boys are infatuated with her, it nearly looks like she is teaching them how to do circles, they are all so calm and at peace with each other.
Phoebe, Venus is so lovely to be around, feeding, rugging, picking feet up etc. She has such a soft dreamy eye, & she is so elegant, she floats when she moves.
Ebony hasn't ridden her yet, she is spending time with her and taking her for little Adventure walks...
Thank you so much
Ebony & Kiki & Venus sends her love back to you. ❤️🦄💕🦄

Hi Phoebe,
Since I have stopped lunging my mares which were both taken through a natural horsemanship program I have noticed they are more settled in everything I do on lead. I was encouraged to push them around when they were disengaged and moving....which led to some dizzy moments. Looking forward to more training forward aides. Cheers Kim

Thanks guys for lots of useful information regarding how to build a strong safe relationship with your horse. Ciggie and I have worked through each daily lesson.....we?ve had some really good days and some not so good days days.....I?ve had time to reflect and each new lesson builds on the last.
There are so many opinions out there about how you should educate your horse. Very few talk about true freedom for the horse to choose. I have worked hard to follow your training method with both Ciggie and my 2 mares.
When my farrier commented on how chilled Ciggie was this time I was super happy. My goal for this session was to allow Ciggie to control his own behaviour. His lead was loose and I simply rested my hand on his neck. I didn?t once have to ask him to behave. The farrier asked him gently and Ciggie gave his permission straight away. Its was great to see what a well behaved horse he is when he?s happy. So excited about what we are going to be able to do together in the future. Kind regards Kim.

Enjoying going through your course Phoebe and surprised at how many things in it I had discovered on my own years ago when, after a big accident, had to look at a safer way and recovering my confidence took me to researching and trying things to get amazing results. Like you say they just want to please if they know how. I've been able to hop on any of my horses that haven't been ridden for 6/12 months bareback without any lungeing etc. I'm still learning and discovering things every day, 54 now. Sounds like we have gone down a similar path of discovery...
Thank you. Sonya

Strawbs has been so sweet and really cute lately. So cuddly and she loves to rest her head on your shoulder or try and nibble my hair! She is so smart she has learnt all her exercises off by heart so when she sees a carrot she will straight away bend her head around to her shoulder it's so cute. Also with a point to her shoulder she will do it automatically! I love her to bits 🥰😍
She has got so much more calm and it feels like our connection is getting better. She also knows our car so anytime we drive up the driveway she will come trotting over with her ears forward and a little whinny!! So cuteeee!
She's getting so much love, and I couldn't be more happy
Thank you again 💋💖
These are some photos of her yesterday.
Thought I would give you an update on Cajun. What an absolute sweetheart. Like other posts I have read she was even more beautiful in real life than the photos. She made my other boy look like a brumby because she is so regal looking!! She has settled in so well, is such a gentle giant and so sweet and well behaved. I do all of her brushing etc with no halters or leads and she just stands there. If she goes to move I just say “whoa” and she stops. She does lift her leg up when she loves what she is eating like you said and it is very endearing. My first couple of rides had to be bareback because I only had 1 girth and she is huge and it didn’t fit and I had to order one to fit her haha. Even bareback she was a complete angel. She had bonded so well with Spirit her paddock companion that I was concerned about riding her as I thought they would be an issue but she just concentrates on the ride and me. Everyone that has met her loves her and comments on how sweet and gentle she is. Thank you xx

I am so sorry we haven't given you an update on Strawberries in a long time. She has been going really well and she's come such a long way since her accident. I got on her bareback the other day and she didn't put a foot wrong. I haven't been able to ride her in full gear yet, but hopefully really soon. We have been going on walkies together in her paddock checking out the other horses and I have been really working on talking to her all the time (normally about nonsense;)). She is sooo clever and I can't wait to work with her. I am hoping to work on dressage and jumping with her because she has shown amazing potential. Everyone that has met her have said amazing things about her and also how pretty she is. She is looking really good and shiny still. She has the most beautiful paddock now with a friend and she is enjoying that as well. She has been a complete different horse since she got where she is now. And just been really happy and she's always got her ears forward. (Apart from feed time) 😂
Can't wait to show you some videos of us together riding really soon!

Hi Phoebe,
Thank you so so much. Montana arrived yesterday. My daughter was so excited
and fell in love with him straight away. This morning both horses we standing together
waiting for breakfast. Thanks again.
Omg phoebes I just had the BEST morning with my boy!!!!!!!! So I went to the paddock at 7:30 to groom and wash him and it was all going good just a normal morning then one of the owners horses got out and came up to us (stood behind Valentino when he was eating!) I was panicking inside but I tried to stay cool for Valentino. I have NEVER seen Valentino let another horse come within 10 meters of him when he's eating so I was sure that I was in a bit of a situation but I just kept saying wooh boy and patting his face and he had his ears back but he didn't even so much as nip at this horse!!!!!! But I didn't want to push it because the other horse started going for his food so I untied Valentino and just walked him away and this horse followed us 😫 so I walked Valentino back up to his food and the other horse took off down the driveway so I left Valentino with his food and had to go catch this other horse before it hurt itself on the cattle grid at the end of the driveway!! Just got to it in time and brought it back up and then all his other horses came out of the gate!!!!!! They all went over to valentino and I was like to myself here we bloody go I'm going to be in the middle of a horse fight with like 5 horses......! But Valentino ended up sharing! Yes sharing!!! So I was already so happy that he was being such a kind boy to the others, I got all the horses back into their paddock and let v finish his breakfast then walked him back to his paddock and gave him cuddles then started walking but up the driveway and he was following me so I started jogging and all of a sudden he's gone into race mode and starting galloping!! He won the race 😂 so I raced him the other way and he did it again!! And won! Again 😂 then I was like righto mate I have to go to work! So he started galloping around the paddock bucking and kicking and rearing and flying around! Then he came galloping back up to front of the paddock where the grass is a bit slippery because of the rain last week. He tried to come to a halt but ended up sliding for about 2 meters 😂😂😂😂he looked at me like "don't laugh Mum I meant to do that" it was soooooo funny 😂💙💙💙💙💙 he's such a character! Love him to bits!

Yes this is Teeto (aka Felix)
Exquisite in mind body and OMG movement, wow!!!
The beautiful and shell shocked girl is my daughter
I, we spent most of yesterday in tears and shock
You see this horse is , special .
He has a very special job now .
The beautiful young girl in the post is barely holding on , to herself and her own existence . For the past several months what has kept her here is the idea of this horse
My daughter has suffered an horrific series of events which , has left her broken inside
Her allowances and the twisting of her mind by perpetrators has resulted in a self hatred that no person thus far has been able to enter and reach
As a single parent , dealing with police , child protection Interpol counsellors etc etc to no avail
Where do you go ??? They leave , your left in between the cracks of government statistics and watching your child slowly drown from the inside out ,praying that she's still breathing in the morning , that she's not hurting herself when your not around
Then one day you realise you have one thing left in your toolbox that you know from personal experience can help
HORSES
But I did that when she was younger and it didn't turn out right , the personality mix and her fear base was a backward step at the time but, that was Shetland, I thought ,what she needs is a proper horse !
So in my search for guidance ,I lucked upon Phoebe
I read everything I could both for and against but you know what , The for was so overwhelming and my gut kept coming back to her website , the way you talk about horses and your ideals are exactly what we needed , it was the nature of the horse I was looking for , the nurture of that nature is up to us
To purchase a horse sight unseen is frightening ,but really ,again it's the nature you are buying ,so the sight is secondary.
To have been presented with such an exquisite specimen , I see the inside is reflected outwards
To wake up this morning and have my daughter race out of bed ,get ready with a smile on her dial ,beam all the way to school and enter the gates with her shoulders back ,head up and an internal shine, that radiated happiness from the inside, was a sight to behold and a looooong time overdue
You did that phoebe 😘
I know we have a long road ahead of us
I too spoke to Teeto about his new job and your right he sooo friggin understood what I was saying
He pranced around for about a half hour yesterday on arrival with his black eyes, it was rainy and cold and windy , but you know what within 40min , he was cool calm and we jumped in there and rugged him freestyle and he didn't even blink , even though the wind was blowing the rug everywhere !
Thank you will never be enough phoebe
We will keep you posted constantly in our progress
We are pedantically following your settling in process
To anybody considering purchasing through Freedom Equine
DEFINATELY 🤗🌈🐎
Blessings to you have an AWESOME day

We bought Yorkie from you 12 months ago and he is an amazing horse willing to do anything asked of him and kids jump all over him. What a find - he is even being groomed for jumping and trick riding!!!
I know you're very busy so don't stress about reading this I just wanted to say how much I appreciate this knowledge and in sight. It seems so obvious and yet is not used nearly as much as it should be. I'm at a riding school that since learning from you, I have come to realize is a typical run of the mill riding school running their horses like machines. Since study I have noticed their incorrect feeding and how frightened these horses are. Broken spirits is what comes to mind. And running when being fetched. I hope to help make even a small difference there with my new and growing knowledge.
Thanks again :)

...I just wanted to say I am really enjoying the course so far! I look forward to reading each day and I never thought I'd say this but I also look forward to the exams! HAHA. I really like the way you've set up the exams in more realistic formatting, it's more engaging and it relates better :)
Thanks again!
I love hearing about the talking to and with horses, because I have always had conversations with riding school horses and even thanking them after a ride even when nobody else is talking to them haha Makes me feel a lot more confident in chatting with my equine friends!
Really enjoyed the exam (never thought I'd say that ahah!) set up :)
Princess, as you know, settled in immediately. She is kind hearted, gentle and loves a good cuddle and a schmacking kiss right on her face. Never in all my years of knowing horses of a wide variety, have I met one so calm, so confident, so exactly as described by you.
We did buy her for our daughter, who made an instant ♥️ connection. However my husband (the horse newbie) has taken a real shine to our easy going, unflappably quiet girl. And it’s mutual 😍
Princess doesn’t just have a beautiful temperament. She is smart as the day is long my friend.
Just in case there was any trouble. Like for example the ponies ganging up on an obvious rookie, I watched keenly through the glass. Picture James Stewart in Rear Window 👀🧐🔭
Hubby is yakking his head off on the phone but Princess thinks he’s talking to her. I watch her ears swiveling around and her face change expression by the millisecond as she tries earnestly to decipher his version of an utterly butchered English language. I was near pissing myself imagining the horse conversations happening parallel to his work call.
By the time he was done with the hay, Princess had seemingly achieved the impossible. Correctly understood my husbands “work speak.” Something I am still incapable of after many long years together. Smart girl she is 😊
We love her to bits. She is simply perfect.
Thank you Phoebe. ♥️

It took only a few hours for her to assess me and decide I’m worth her time. We have had cuddles already that she initiated. So affectionate. She’s an absolute delight. Happy for me to rug her up for the cold Melbourne nights and is now enjoying her dinner with her best new friend. Princess has met the extended family. That being our chicken flock and three big goofy dogs. All have got along famously and Princess has been welcomed into our menagerie with loving arms.
Thank you once again. You are a huge asset to the horse community and for the second time have given us our perfect horse. So much love for what you do and what you stand for.

Diva is such a beautiful horse - we just love her :) She loves attention, follows us around and rubs her nose up and down our backs. Falls asleep when we rub both her cheeks.

RBEI REVIEW
BRONTE MCGREGOR
Where do I even start. Phoebe and Des are amazing people and have gone above and beyond to make sure I get the most perfect horse to suit me!
Phoebe sent me a list of horses available at the time and suggested that one of them would suit me especially well!
From then on Phoebe and Des were so supportive in helping me get ready for my boy Valentino to arrive!
I have been non stop asking questions about feed, gear, riding and more!
Phoebe has been so so helpful and answered ALL of my questions and even saved me money by telling me that some things I was going to get were a waste of money and not necessary.
Des has been awesome! He has been sending me statements and invoices letting me know where I am up to and have sorted out a payment plan for my beautiful boy!
I am so so so excited to meet my boy in 5 days and I have no doubt that Phoebe will help me through the settling in process and with any future help I may need!
I cannot recommend RBEI enough! I will not be buying horses from anywhere else!
I am grateful beyond words for everything they have done for me!

Cosmo is a beautiful soul. Our favorite thing to do is chill in the paddock together. I pull out the best bits of hay from the net to hand feed him. I sing silly songs I make up as I scratch all the bits (like inside his ears?! He’s a weirdo!) that he offers up to my nails. When he’s in a really good mood, I get snuffly kisses on my head and cuddles when he rests his head on me, and I rest mine on his. Sometimes we just stand forehead to forehead breathing together. Horse breath is my all time favorite smell...

I went to feed SanDomingo and my mare Painty and they were full of mischief. my mum and I drove into the paddock on the 4x4 and they stood their like statues in front of us so we couldn’t drive anywhere! 😂 I finally asked them kindly to move out of the way he then raced us to the feed shed ( he didn’t beat my 21yr old mare with arthritis ;) he then waited for his feed at the shed whilst I was putting a rug on my mare (thank god he was distracted cause otherwise he sits there rubbing his head on me pushing me into my mare while I’m trying to put the rug on; he’s such a smoocher ) I then put the feed in front of them and then did his rug. We took a few pics of how snug they looked and then headed to the gate just as I closed the gate my mare had finished her feed and was walking towards his feed. Me waiting to see what his reaction would be stopped and stood there watching he then lifted his head and let my mare take a bite of his food, vice versa. He’s such a gentlemen😊 hehe

Here’s a video of Noah, 8 years old riding Lady. I’ve had to eat my words today, I’ve been saying for a long time that children should never be put on ex race horses but as it’s clearly shown on the video this horse is bombproof. She’s honestly never put a foot wrong.

Genie is going so well. Nothing fazes her!
She keeps our Quarter horse, Whisky so calm. We've had neighbours a couple doors down take up motor cross in their paddock (*sigh*) and Whisky seems to hate dirt bikes.
Usually he'd he running around like a loonie trying to escape but Genie goes around munching the grass so he takes her lead and either stands there quiet or goes back to grazing.
Kia kaha.
May I please use Richie’s purchase to complete this course.
I am so excited.....
Hence I am so excited about this course.
I have never known of horses so well prepared and trained and genuinely calm and relaxed as yours ...... I can’t get enough of your training methods and respect for these amazing animals .... that align with my beliefs and how I have treated and respected my horses & actually all my animals ( dogs & cats also 😊)
...I will send you some more pics soon...
I just love this big boy ❤️... and can’t wait to see him every morning & night.... the girls at the paddock laugh .... as they give him a pat and hug as they past, which he loves, but all he does is look past them for me & calls out as soon as he sees me & then ignores them..... 😂
The other day I let him & Danny out of their paddocks for a walk around the property whilst I cleaned out there paddocks ...... they had a lovely time .... a pick & play & run ( yes fast) then he sauntered all the way back & into the paddock & gave me a sniff & lick & stood with me for a while then sauntered back off again to play & relax again.... sooo sweet !!! ❤️
He hates a dirty paddock & points at the poop with his nose & then points with his foot for me to clean it up ..... as if “dirty sod ...how darn disgusting... how come you haven’t cleaned that up yet?” !!!😂😂😂 bloody hilarious!
Hi not sure if u can hear her this happens everyday I call her or I come home 😍😍😍
She is soo soo adorable 😍😍😍, (video)

"I rode her today she is beautiful, I did 3 laps of our front paddock, it's about 4 acres. It was windy also, she didn't care less....She loves a cuddle, she was going to sleep putting saddle on :) :) then cuddles into Dean, so cute.
She has been very compliant so far, only rode her this avo for about 1 hour, as quite hot.
I was getting annoyed with the wind :) :) not with her, she was falling asleep, such a sweet heart."

Hi Phoebe,
It’s Melissa, Genie’s new owner. Just thought I’d say hi & give you a little update on her since I haven’t got round to it yet but have been meaning too.
This ad for Paris has reminded me & I’ve got time now so why not, right? Haha.
Looking at Paris, it reminds me of when I 1st saw the ad for Genie (is this her long lost sister haha).
Genie is doing really well, we (my partner Adam) and I have been riding her. He’s a beginner & she’s been SO patient with him.
We’ve followed your settling in program and it’s been really helpful, thank you.
Genie is best mates with our Quarter horse, Whisky, which is great because he’s been wanting a friend for a while. The mini we got given didn’t do the trick unfortunately.
Here’s a couple recent photos of her...

I bought Charlotte from Phoebe Trindall-Norling when she was just 4 ( 2 years ago) & very green.
It wasn’t an easy decision to let her go to one of my younger students but seeing this wonderful post on Facebook cements my belief that I did the right thing for both Charlotte & my student .
It humbles me & inspires me seeing how Amba has committed to the work required to achieve these wonderful results on just her 2nd outing .
I’ve bought a few horses from phoebe & all of them have been as described & have all gone on to enjoying happy contented lives with loving owners !!
I am incredibly happy for Charlotte , she deserves the loving & beautiful home she now enjoys with her owner & her paddock buddy Stormy.
...Di "I think it just proves the quality of the horses I’ve purchased from you !!"

Santiago came to me around 18mths ago an OTT tall , athletic looking & beautiful.
Initially I fancied him for my own riding ( being Dressage) but he has sort of fallen into being one of our most popular riding school horses ! His fan club is huge 😊🐴
His future is secure , he’s a definite jerker &many thanks to Phoebe for allowing me to buy him.. he’s a dream horse with a big future

(Regarding Opie)
He is doing really well, we have had him for 2.5 weeks now and he is settling in nicely.
He is currently in a paddock on his own during the day and at 4pm i bring my other two in with him to socialize and have their dinner and a good groom.
Unfortunatley, my son has been in hospital for the past week so i have not really bonded with him as much as i would like to before riding him. I will restart the whole process with him again tomorrow.
So far, i am happy with him, he has a very lovable & comical nature, he also loves his food!!
I have taken him for lead walks around the property, had his feet trimmed, bathed him, groomed him, rugged him, had wormer paste and even managed to do some groundwork training, he was excellent with all of this!
This will continue for another 2/3 weeks before I ride. He is also having a saddle fitting on Saturday!
I have renamed him and he now responds to "Ziggy", it suits him a bit better😊"

My horses and I have a bond which is really special. They don't fear me and I don't fear them. I connect with them all individually. I communicate with them as though they are people, but they are more than that. Horses can read you like you wouldn't believe. They show the same emotions as us, fear, anger, sadness, happiness. They need to be able to release these emotions same as us. Sometimes they stare at me and I can almost hear what they are thinking. They are cuddly and affectionate. They are so special. I feel this way with all my other animals too. I stopped having dressage lessons as I felt I was only doing someone elses way. I feel that you need to be taught by your horse, not another human. I do a lot better with just me and them, they have taught me so much. BUT MY SENSE OF DIRECTION IS STILL OFF HAHAHA GO LEFT, OH THE OTHER LEFT HAHAHAHA. But honestly, you look into a horses eyes and it is heart stopping, so much to tell in those beautiful spiritual eyes. Sometimes I get really emotional just sitting with them and feeling that awesome wonder of them allowing me to be with them and being in partnership with them. I LOVE THEM TO BITS. My heart bursts with love and pride. xx

FELIX'S OWNER UPDATE
Once it was up and running again I knew you would be flat out trying to catch up.
Also wanted to say Hi to Michelle as I have followed her and Deagans progress.
Then things got really busy on the farm. With the arrival of spring came hay season and shearing and I totally understand what working 17 hour days is like.
I am still finishing my cuppa with my evening meal at 12:45 am! We didn't get inside until gone 10:00pm this evening, usually we at get in by 9pm and have tea by 10! This evening I had to finish turning fruit that was hit by all the weekend rain into preserves. At least we didn't get the floods that were forecast.
Anyway about Felix. One morning during the winter I had put him in the round yard while he ate his breakfast. A couple of hours later I went out to turn him out in his paddock with his friend.
He was dozing on the far side of the yard so I went over to him. When I got up to him he rested his head against the front of my jacket and nickered ever so softly.
I thought he must have smelt something he liked (carrots or apples) on me but later in the day I had changed into my jods and a different jacket to ride him and when I went to catch him he did the same again. I was really touched.
He was very nervous when we first arrived. I didn't think it would be a good idea to try to ride him so I explained about him to the level assessor.
She laughed when I told her I had brought an ex racehorse to an equestrian centre with the race track in full view for my first outing.
She says they can smell a racetrack a mile away! Her husband is a trainer and they have retrained many TBs.
Told me not to worry just bring him along about 5 times for a look and walk him around and he would be fine.
(This was what I had planned originally but as usual people made me feel I should be hurrying along).
Anyway a fortnight later I took him and the pony along again. He casually got off the float, sauntered along behind me, stuck his head in the club room door as we passed (just to check things out) and I put him in a yard next to a nice little pony mare who immediately screamed at him pulled nasty faces.
Felix, totally cool, just approached again and got the same reaction. I left him with a full haynet and water and went to get my pony off the float but checked on the way with the mares owner that she was OK with Felix next to her.
Don't worry about her was the owners response that is the worst she does. When I finally returned with the pony I found Felix had managed to pull the haynet belonging to the mare (who by the way is called Phoebe) across so he could reach it and the two of them had their heads side by side munching on HER hay.
He is a real lady charmer. Even the most stand offish mares succumb to his charm. From what I have gleaned from his racing records he wasn't gelded until he was four years old. Anyway I didn't ride him that day just took him for walks around the complex and gave him a little lunge.
He did get a little jumpy at times but on the whole, the day was just a food fest for him. I noticed after we had been out together and he knew he would come home to the same place we really seemed to get even closer.
We have been a few times now but the last couple of rallies were cancelled so I am waiting for a nice quiet mid week one where we can try a ride.
He is cantering well now on the lunge both ways and rarely disunites. I think it was just a muscle strength problem. I just lunge in a head collar, no side reins or anything, and encourage him to stretch right down and lift his back so he is free and can swing in his trot and walk.
It must be hard after racing for so long to re program the muscles. He is building up nicely over the top line now although he isn't very forward yet under saddle.
I still haven't been able to get him cantering under saddle but when my arena dries out after all the rain we will be able to work on that again.
I just want to take things slowly as so far it has all been positive progress and I don't see any sense in hurrying things and spoiling that however impatient my friends might be.
I just want him to enjoy his new career and feel comfortable.
He is a real water baby. Anytime we have heavy rain the spoon drain in his paddock fills with water and as soon as I put him out he goes straight in and splashes madly with his front legs.
It is only shallow but he has water flying everywhere. I wondered where he got such a love of water from but then read that Bindi Cheers (who trained him for a time) trains on the beach.
No wonder he loves it. He probably has really missed it.
I've also found he loves his mixed feed really wet and slops around in the "juice" in the bottom of his feeder, licking up every bit. There is never anything left.
He certainly does seem to have really settled in now and has his favourite friends in the paddock and stables ,including a chook and a cat, that moved into the stable with him to rear their young!
He is quite a chatty horse now too and often calls out if he sees me coming.
I often look on your web page just to see if you have any new training notes or news.
Loved Michelle's writing about her two horses...
Must get to bed
12mths ago this fella came into my life CAESAR my beautiful best animal friend, he is so awesomely loyal to me that in time I hope to share that with you all ..... Phoebe, he really is amazn, a day never goes by that Im not thankful for him 💞
Good morning Phoebe . I just wanted to let you know how proud I am of the boys this morning. Monty was the one lying down with Beau standing watch over him for a change. The fact that Monty actually trusts boss man Beau to stand so close when in a very vulnerable state is awesome ... but ... Monty finally let me go right up to him, in the dark with a torch, stand there scratching his head while he was still down was the best start to the day. He doesn't mind during the day but when it's dark he gets up as soon as he sees me coming so this is a BIG thing for him. So much love for these 2 horses 💖💖

FELIX'S OWNER UPDATE:
Hi Phoebe, Thanks for your reply... He was so good yesterday.
Due to heavy rain and me helping at my riding clubs comp for three days poor Felix hadn't had any work or much attention other than being stabled at night, having rugs changed, fed and a quick brush.
As soon as I brought him in for work he was so interested in everything I did.
Nosing my head and hair while I put his boots on, chewing the lunging whip while I tried to mend it, I only lunged him and.. .WOW he just stretched down and kept the most beautiful rhythm and tempo at the trot. It was lovely to watch.
...his work was just beautiful and he listened to everything I said.
When we went back to the stables and I brushed him down he was the same, nibbling the brush, giving me a scratch back when I got his itchy spots.
I felt like he was really being engaged with me and we were doing everything together, almost as if he had missed the time we normally spend doing things.
While he was tied under the stable verandah a rooster chased a hen from around the back of the stables, wings flapping, squawking and flat out straight under Felix's legs. He never moved! He is such a gem.
I'll have a chance to ride him out with friends in a couple of weeks time when they bring their horses over. I'll try to remember to get them to take some photos of Felix and I to send to you.
They have their own racehorses that have finished racing and train really kindly and gently too so we are all going to help each other.
They have found as I so often have so many instructors just have too little regard for the horses wellbeing.
I keep referring back to your notes on training, feeding etc. and the e-mails you have sent so thank you again.
Sometimes when I look back for a particular answer I read something else and get the "Oh Yeah, I'd forgotten that " experience.

FELIX'S OWNER UPDATE
One day I was cleaning the round yard when a totally non horsey friend called. I stopped and leant on the yard rails to talk to her with my back to Felix who was dozing on the other side of the yard.
Engaged in conversation I wasn't paying any attention to Felix until a nose was very gently rested on my shoulder and hot air breathed into my neck.
This brought a big aahhhh from my friend. I think is really starting to think of me as 'his' person and now after I have ridden him I am finding he is even more affectionate. I wonder if he has never had a special permanent person in his life before. I wish he could talk! I just want him to be as happy and contented as possible.
None of the saddles I had fitted him properly and after having a little ride in the round yard in a couple of them I had to start looking for a saddle for him.
Anyway finally got one and I have now ridden him half a dozen times. It took me a couple of rides to even be able to rise to the trot on him as his stride was so long after the ponies. It was like learning to ride all over again.
I was scared if he shot forward or something I would be out of the saddle. He was really good though and now we ride out on the arena and today I rode him down the lane to let the chooks out.
Only walking and trotting at this stage and working on getting him straight and reaching into the bit and me sitting stiller and more securely in the saddle...
I really love him and I don't think I have thanked you yet for finding me such a lovely friend. So if I haven't, thank you now from the bottom of my heart.
I am just frightened the dream might disappear! He seems too good to be true. The friend who encouraged me to buy him knows the disappointments I have had with other horses and laughed when I told her I didn't dare keep saying how good he was in case I put a moz on him and my dreams.
You wouldn't believe in the first week of owning him how negatively some people reacted to me having bought a horse sight unseen and for only $3000!
I couldn't possibly have bought anything any good for that much money, certainly not quiet, very dodgy, make sure I really tire him out before I get on him, what was I getting another horse for etc. etc. etc.
It was really very upsetting and un-nerving for me who has an anxiety disorder anyway.
So I just stopped telling people about him and now I am just keeping him under wraps and working away quietly until he is ready to take out....a gleaming black gem.
Then we'll show them. I certainly wasn't going to tire him out before I got on him. What a great way to teach a horse how unpleasant training and riding could be for him.
I noticed you have changed locations. What an absolutely fabulous property. I hope things work out really well for you there and you are really happy and can keep helping even more horses and people.
I just wish I lived closer and could come for lessons with you in that fantastic indoor arena.
Looking forward to hearing from you....but don't feel under pressure to respond as I am sure you are still busy settling in and I know only too well what that is like.

"I have had dealings with Phoebe both as a buyer and a seller. I found her to be an honest, understanding and a genuine person. I can not recommend her highly enough if some one is looking to buy or sell a horse. I have been in the horse industry for 20 years and have come across quiet a few shady characters. But I found Phoebe to be a very knowledgeable person and has a true love for horses. Thanks for placing my boys with their new families. Robyn Pritchard."

FELIX'S OWNER UPDATE:
Thanks for sending the paperwork for Felix. Sorry I am only just getting back to you about him.
Our bond is already cementing. He is settling in well now and really endeared himself to me yesterday when he saw me coming and came to meet me at the gate of the paddock where he and one of my old ponies were happily grazing for the afternoon.
He seemed really sad and empty when he first arrived, maybe he was just tired or the heat was troubling him ...or maybe he was just thinking "now where have I been sent" but has just settled more and more each day and is just so obliging with anything I ask of him.
The flies were really bad too and biting and seemed especially attracted to him. He was almost beside himself. I washed him with a medicated shampoo and then sprayed him with a tropical strength personal spray which didn't work and he didn't like being sprayed much either.
I then gave the Natures Botanicals fly cream a try and it worked like a charm. I used a food handling latex glove and just put a small amount on the glove and wiped it all over the glove first then all over him. Took a few dips into the pot to cover his whole body but it was quite economical and didn't evaporate of the coat. Now I put it on him first thing in the morning and it lasts all day. It seems different products deter different flies!
I had been leaving him in the round yard overnight just as a precaution and also because it had been so hot but last night we had torrential rain and cool wind so about 1:00 am I went out and put him in one of my big roomy stables with deep straw bedding.
He loved it and was so clean in the stable. Just settled down to munching on his hay straight away. He had two of my old ponies in the yard outside the stables for company and they also had access to stable next to his. When I went out in the morning he seemed quite happy and content.
I took ages to get the shoes off ( I haven't removed shoes for years) and he just stood there dozing. So good. He must have wondered why he got so much praise while I did the job and a big hug at the end when I finally had the shoes off and the feet rasped.
He has lovely feet for a thoroughbred. Really tight little black feet.
So far he hasn't reacted to anything on the farm either and as you predicted he was absolutely fine with the duck shooting.
I am just going to take it slowly with him and hopefully get the weight back on him with just hay before I ride him.
He is getting ad lib meadow hay in nibble nets as I am trying encourage that consistent grazing and chewing which is so good for their digestive system and mental health and shouldn't hot him up.
In the afternoon he goes out to graze with one of my ponies. I don't want to give him too much access to the grass at the moment as it is mainly couch grass which can be high in Oxalic Acid isn't good for them.
I will start doing a bit of groundwork with him and just play with him until I feel his weight is OK and by then we should know each other much better too.
What a history he has! I had done a bit of detective work on the internet and had discovered his real identity (even without full access to the ASB) before your papers arrived to confirm it.
Anyway so far we are getting on beautifully together and he is so striking and imposing. I could look at his lovely head over the stable door for hours.
I'll try to give a regular update on him though Equest. It will be slow and steady progress but I'm hoping it will be a journey that both of us really enjoy.
Forgot to mention that the marks he got from the white tape have almost covered with new hair now and what a beautiful skinned horse he is.
Such a fine coat. Like satin when he is warm and then when he is a bit cool it fluffs up like the finest velvet.
To say he has only been with me for a week I think we are doing pretty well. I must admit my confidence was a bit shaken when I first saw how big he was and when I lead him he had such a huge walk but just as he is getting used to me I am getting used to him.
It is a big step up for me from ponies and at my age.

"Michelle Binstead I have bought 2 horses from Phoebe Trindall-Norlingsince unseen and haven't had any problems with them. One is 16hh the other close to that and my grandkids that had never even sat on a horse before have been on them - aged from 12yrs down to 1yr old. The horses are so gentle, loving and patient with the kids. I highly recommend her to find you a suitable horse. Oh by the way, I have never met Phoebe so this is a genuine testimonial for her. 😊"

Hi Phoebe Trindall-Norling we are very interested in securing one of your horses in the next year and we have relied on the feedback from your happy clients as part of our decision. I hadn't thought to ask you more details of how you choose the horses until we are closer to purchase but I just loved your comment about that and I just wanted to let you know that the publicity, whilst not how you would like to receive it, is working because I am more convinced than ever that you are the right person and your horses are the right horses for us! My daughter who is desperate for a horse hopes that you won't give it up before we come to you when the time is right! We look forward to welcoming one of your babies into our hearts and home!

I still ignored so so he rested his head on my shoulder then put it on my head. "Can't ignore me this time mum"

"I'm 55 in a couple of weeks and I have an awesome boy that's 16hh & 9yrs old. My grandkids get on him (all the kids are beginner beginners lol) aged from under 12mths to 12 yrs. He is a real gentle giant with them - I should say with everyone"

"Hi Phoebe I 100% endorse your views. My ex-partner Kym and I rescued a 16-3 hand thoroughbred called Whitfied a few years ago. He had been abused. He would kick and bite and we couldn't even rug him. Feed time was a nightmare. He was insecure and acted out. But with lots of care, love and re-education, he regained his confidence and he has turned into an amazing horse and one of my best friends. Part of regaining his security and confidence involved taking him for walks like a 600kg dog. He grazes beside me and whereas previously he would bite, he now gives me gentle nudges to check in with me. I talk to him and give him scratches. I lean on him and play with his ears and I have no issues in catching him as he always trots or canters to me. Just spending time like this with your horse will do wonders for it and you."

Michelle: Beau and I often go for a walk on the lead. We just talk, cuddle and spend quiet time together. He is amazing x
Michelle...21 October 2016
Michelle: "... Around 6pm is when I usually bring Beau up and put him in his night yard, groom, rug and feed him. When he sees me coming he always comes up to meet me part way. Tonight I was running about 5mins later than usual so he just came and put himself to bed lol. He just wanders in and stands there as if to say "ok mum where's dinner". Love this big fella."

"Phoebe you do such great work. You place ponies with the love they deserve. People willing to to put the trust into them. No pony walks in and goes Yer this is the shit. I'm Kool now. Lucky your clients love them and take the time to understand them. 🙏🙏"

Michelle: "When Degan was going home he gives me a hug and says "thank you so much for letting me ride Beau today Nanny. I think I would like to learn to ride him - even trot and canter". I told him I was saving for another quiet one so that way we could go riding together. His reply "I bar Beau 'cause I will have known him longer". Beau was so patient with everyone today. The smaller the rider the slower he walked lol. Even the one that turned 4 decided he had to take him for a walk. Beau gets that low he's almost crawling behind him. Super super super happy, proud and in love with this horse. Thank you x x"

Brydee: She's a very special girl ☺ follows me around everywhere! The other day mum's horse didn't want to come to me when I called (he's best friends with the neighbors Shetland and didn't want to leave him haha) and Sapph ran down, rounded him up and brought him straight to me! I couldn't believe it hahah
Beth...10 October 2016
Beth: "I have a very interesting story to tell you because I know you like little updates because I know how amazing aztec is I popped my very unexperienced friend on her and my friend misjudged how much pressure she needed to try a trot, which i didnt suggest and she ended up in a canter and because i misjudged aztecs mind i thought she would run straight into the fence and hurt herself terrible i was never worried about the girl on the horse because i know aztec would never intentionally hurt even a fly, so in her full canter i jumped in front of her and she stopped dead in her tracks, of course she looked at me as in have i done something wrong ? so of course i gave her cuddles to make sure she knew how good she was, ive never trusted a horse so much and all she is is a big gentle giant...I love her so much she will be in this family forever 🙂"
Cherie...10 October 2016
...she's just amazing, she loves us, she's so gentle and sweet".
Beth Maher...4 October 2016
...never trusted a horse more than I trust my giant baby.
Michelle...9 October 2016
Michelle: ...A friend got him for me. He's that quiet all my grandkids have been on him. He plods along so slow and if he's saddled up with no-one on him he'll stand where ever he is left and doesn't move not even to graze. Big gentle giant."
Michelle...1 October 2016
Michelle: "Beau is just so gentle and slow around the kids. My 12yr old grandson likes horses but is very wary of them. He was leading Beau around and looking a bit nervous. Beau lowered his head even more than usual and rested it against Degan's arm as if to say it was ok and you could see with each step Degan relaxed with him. He has never wanted to get on a horse but said next time he might try just sitting on Beau. You never know, maybe Beau will give him confidence to ride. :) x"

Lisa: "She's going to love it at mums! And we all already love her. She had to walk 2.5km last night when she got off the truck. She did so well. Dogs barking, horses whinnying and cars going past and she was such a trooper :)"
